Modifying the Server Options File

At installation, ADSM provides a server options file named dsmserv.opt with a set of default options to start the server. The dsmserv.smp file (also provided at installation) contains the format of the options file and all the default settings. You can change any options in the dsmserv.smp file. If you do so, you must rename the file to dsmserv.opt. To activate an option within the server options file, remove the *>>> that precedes the option. The server ignores any options preceded by *>>>.

At server initialization, the server reads the server options file. If you update a server option by editing the file, you must stop and start the server to activate the updated server options file. You can change some options dynamically by issuing the SETOPT command. See SETOPT (Set a Server Option for Dynamic Update) for details.

Setting Communication Options

Setting Client-Server Options

Use the options described in Table 254 to control client-server communication processing.

Option Description Reference
COMMTIMEOUT The number of seconds the server waits for a response from a client before timing out the client session Page COMMTimeout
IDLETIMEOUT The number of minutes the server allows a client session to remain idle before timing out the client session Page IDLETimeout
MAXSESSIONS The maximum number of simultaneous client sessions with the server Page MAXSessions

Setting Date, Number, Time, and Language Options

Use the options described in Table 255 to specify display formats for the dates, times, numbers, and national language.

BUFPOOLSIZE The size of database buffer pool Page BUFPoolsize
LOGPOOLSIZE The size of recovery log buffer pool Page LOGPoolsize
MIRRORREAD How mirrored volumes are to be accessed when the server reads pages to the recovery log or database during normal processing Page MIRRORRead
MIRRORWRITE How mirrored volumes are to be accessed when the server writes pages to the recovery log or database during normal processing Page MIRRORWrite

Setting Group Options

Use the options described in Table 257 to control how ADSM groups and transfers data.

Option Description Reference
EXPQUIET Whether or not ADSM sends detailed informational messages Page
MESSAGEFORMAT Whether or not a message number is displayed in all lines of a multi-line message. Page MESsageformat
MSGINTERVAL The length in time, in minutes, that the server sends a message to mount a tape to a tape operator Page MSGINTerval
STATUSMSGCNT The number of records processed between messages during DSMSERV DUMPDB and DSMSERV LOADDB commands. Page STAtusmsgcnt

Setting Event Logging Options

Use the following options described in Table 259 to manage event logging receivers.
